motoGuide: Navigation Ring
Team: Vidya Mantrala & Andi Zhou
My colleague and I were tasked with developing a physical product with a digital interface that could be developed as an accessory to Motorola smart phones. motoGuide is a smart ring that enables a more confident navigation experience for travelers in Latin America.
I led the research effort and the 3D modeling aspects of this project, while my partner led the CMF and graphic design components.

Context
Brazil is Motorola's largest Latin American market, but we discovered that leisure travel trends were similar across the region. These trends are results of increased globalization, and a revolution of travel platforms that are permeating tourism industries all over the world.
Primary Research
We interviewed 4 professionals between the ages of 25-35 from Latin America about their travel habits. Safety, unfamiliar places, and bulky packing emerged as key pain points. From these insights, we developed our design direction.
Concept
motoGuide is a smart ring that helps you navigate in unfamiliar places. Maps and directions can be downloaded to the ring and discretely gives feedback to the wearer about where they are going. Cell phones can be stowed away so that they are less of a target for thieves and less of a distraction in unfamiliar locations.
